This summer children have been harvesting, cooking and baking from the Schoolyard Garden.  Each week volunteers worked with children in the garden, we watched bees gather nectar, and flowers form fruits.  Together we cooked with our fresh produce to make delicious and healthy breakfasts and picnic lunches.  All through the summer children enjoyed nature while they were gardening, fishing, cooking, eating and playing.

The last few weeks, Kids Cook Classroom activities included  getting ready for this summers' last pot luck picnic, the "Schoolyard Fair" and Pie Auction. This celebration is tomorrow afternoon.

Neighborhood children have spent the lazy, hazy days of summer pickling cucumbers and beans, making pesto from basil and mint, and herbal salts. These relishes will be displayed and sold at the Schoolyard Fair.

In the early days of summer rhubarb and cherries were picked; now pies have been made and baked for our Pie Auction.

At the fair sun-ripened fruits will be "on show".  You can judge them, purchase one to take home.  There will be games to play, music to hear and great food to eat.

We hope that you can join us in the garden for the Schoolyard Fair and Pie Auction.    You'll meet the cooks, gardeners, volunteers and Loring families.
Your pie auction donations will help to support Kids Cook classes and nature activities.

See you Sunday,
Robin, Starla & Susa
