Literacy Specialist & K-2 Interventionist

Welcome to Loring.  My name is Morgan Stangl and I am the K-2 Interventionist and Literacy Specialist at Loring Community School.

All students at Loring take part in classroom instruction that includes content delivered in a variety of ways to meet the needs of individual students.  Sometimes an individual or small group needs something more or different than what can be provided by the classroom teacher.  This is where I come in. When a child is struggling to learn a skill or strategy despite the many strategies employed by the classroom teacher, our team of classroom teachers and administration meets to develop a plan.  This meeting includes reviewing data, identifying strengths and needs, setting goals, and planning more individualized instruction.  The specific intervention will vary upon the needs of the child but may include meeting with me during centers, being part of a 20 minute pull-out group, or working with me individually.  When a child meets his or her goal or if the intervention is not succeeding, the same team meets to stop or adjust the intervention.

A secondary part of my job is to provide support to staff as they continually evolve their practice.  In this role, I may plan professional development, observe and provide feedback to teachers, support teachers as they plan instruction, and work with administration to set and monitor goals for our school.

As a child, I grew up moving between Montana and South Carolina.  I taught Kindergarten, 2nd and 3rd grades in Chicago Public Schools for 6 years, before moving to Minnesota where I taught 1st and 3rd grades in Savage, MN for 3 years.  This is my 7th year at Loring.  I have my Master of Arts in Teaching from National Louis University outside of Chicago and my Reading License through the University of Minnesota.

I live in St. Louis Park with my husband Matt, son Eli (2nd grade), daughter Cora (Kindergarten).

If you have any questions about how to helping your child in reading or math, feel free to contact me.  I'm happy to share at-home strategies for supporting your child's growth.
