Dear Loring Community,

We are looking at ways to create a safe and welcoming parent drop off and pick up location due to the construction happening at Loring and the closure of door #9 by the playground. We learned this week that using Sheridan Ave for drop off and pick up is unsafe. Students are crossing in the middle of the road between cars and buses. We also had parents parking on the bus lane and then the buses struggled navigating their route. So, we’re going to make a slight adjustment. Moving forward, parents should park along 44th Ave N or Thomas Ave N and have your students cross at the crosswalk to enter Loring at door #6. No parents should park or drive along Sheridan Avenue. If you drop off your student at or after 9 AM, please use door 1, which is the parking lot door.

Also, a reminder of our after school dismissal procedure: Parents picking up their children should not park on the west side of Sheridan Avenue or the north side of 44th Avenue where our buses load and should always cross their children in designated cross walks. Loring staff will only release a student to non-school personnel who are parents or other lawfully authorized persons. If you or someone else is picking up your student during the day please come to the school office via door 1 to sign them out. If the office staff does not know you, please be prepared to show identification. If your student is being picked up at end of day instead of taking the bus, please contact the office NO LATER THAN 12 PM, NOON. This is so that we are able to notify the appropriate staff and student. We will not be able to accommodate changes at bus dismissal time, such as pulling students off of the bus, or switching them to a different bus. Please be prepared to meet your student at their regular assigned stop. Please come in through door 6 from 2:55 – 3:20 PM for parent pick up. Please do not leave the building without signing for your student.

Thank you for being flexible as we work to create the safest drop off and pick up plan that we can do during our construction. We recognize this is an inconvenience and appreciate your flexibility and understanding during this time.

To keep everyone informed about the progress of the remodeling, the district’s Capital Planning, Construction, and Maintenance Department has a project webpage setup for Loring that will be updated periodically. On that page, people can also sign up to receive e-updates.
