Mr. John Raidt

My name is John Raidt. I am a 4/5 Math Specialist at Loring Community school. I have been a teacher in the Minneapolis School District for 19 years. I have taught at Loring School since 2001. I love 4th and 5th grade because the students are so much more capable of understanding and processing things than in earlier grades. I enjoy teaching math, and 4th and 5th grade math is definitely a challenge. The amount of material and the depth to which they are expected to understand such difficult concepts such as fractions, decimals, ratios, not to mention long division, the nemesis of many a student, can sometimes seem overwhelming to some students. I look forward to the challenge and will do my best to ensure that your child gets the best math education possible.

On a slightly more personal note, I am married to the most beautiful and wonderful woman I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. We are blessed to have two lovely children (1 son and 1 daughter) who amaze us with their spirit, energy, compassion, and intelligence each and every day. As they say - "My cup runneth over"!

Teaching Background:

  • I have taught the following grades: 1/2, 1, 2, 3, 2/3, and 5. In addition to these grades, I have been a Title 1 and Reading Resource teacher and am now a Math Specialist. These varied teaching experiences have enabled me to learn and understand the intellectual, social, physical, and emotional development of elementary students.
  • I graduated from the University of Minnesota with degrees in History, Political Science, and Education. I received my Postbaccalaureate degree and license in Elementary Education 1-6.
  • My goal (or philosophy) as a teacher is to prepare, encourage, and inspire my students to enjoy and pursue a lifetime of learning. To be effective in this pursuit, a teacher must genuinely relate to his students and be able to engage them emotionally and intellectually.

You may contact me at school between the hours of 8:00 AM and 3:30 PM.
