Minnesota Reading Corps Opportunities at Loring School!

You can help children succeed in school by giving them the extra support they need to read. Make a direct impact by serving one year as a Minnesota Reading Corps Literacy Tutor at Loring School. One full-time Elementary Literacy Tutor-Community Corps position is currently available.

Preschool Literacy Tutors work with our preschool students and Elementary Literacy Tutors work one-on-one with K-3 children who need help learning to read. They use prescribed literacy interventions and conduct weekly progress monitoring to ensure their students are on track to read at grade level by the end of third grade. They commit to daytime hours.

During your eleven-month AmeriCorps service, you’ll receive extensive training, support and general professional development opportunities. In addition, you will receive a modest living allowance of about $484 biweekly (full-time) or about $250 biweekly (part-time), an education award of $5,645 (full-time) or $2,822 (part-time) to use towards paying for college or paying off any federal student loans and other benefits if eligible.

  • Tutors are not required to have a college degree or teaching experience to serve in our program. Applicants just need a high school diploma and be 18 years of age.
  • Tutors who are 55 or older are eligible to gift their education award to children, grandchildren, or foster children. Tutors who are 55 or older may choose to transfer their education award to a child, grandchild or foster child.
