Adopt Loring School and Community Garden

School and Community families are needed to “Adopt the Garden” for 1 week this summer, beginning on Sunday June 10th and ending on Sunday September 30th. 16 weeks, 16 families! We are also looking for 4 families to become Garden Ambassadors. As a garden ambassador, your family will walk through the garden on Weekends throughout June, July, August or September. You will be responsible to greet people, to check up on the garden making sure that Produce is Harvested, Weeds are maintained and Even Trash is picked up throughout the Schoolyard Garden.

Choose a week to water, weed and help maintain Loring Schoolyard Garden. Your family will enjoy harvesting “The Pick of the Week” and it’s fun to invite friends or even a new family at school or your block to help. Inviting a new family to garden with you introduces them to the program and helps to sustain Loring Schoolyard Garden for Kids Cook Classroom activities throughout the year. Each week there are different gardening projects that need to be done, and a different “Part of the Plant” to pick, take home to eat! Your family will receive an email from Robin at Kids Cook Classroom with “Projects and Picks of the week”.

Potluck Picnics and Workshops

This year as a part of the Seeds of Change Grant, we will have an Herbalist, Urban Farmer and a Entomologist leading Workshops at our Sunday Potluck Picnics. At the Herbalist Workshop, families will learn about foraging Edible Weeds, the medicinal properties of plants and make Herbal Salves. The Urban Farmer Workshop will acquaint families to the importance of planting Pollinator Plants in Orchards, Gardens and Yards. Bugs, Insects and Spiders will be found and introduced to you at our third workshop.

Mark your calendars and attend these workshops. Invite your friends and neighbors for a Sunday evening of gardening activities and a community Potluck Picnic. Workshops begin at 5:00 and will be taught again at 7:00 after the Potluck Picnic.
