Information about Devices
As we approach the end of the school year, we need everyone's help to ensure students’ return all learning resources that have been issued to them during the school year. This includes ALL district technology (including iPads, Chromebooks, Mobile Hotspots, and their accompanying charging accessories), books and textbooks. Students/families should return all resources to their school site on or before their last day of school, and/or no later than the end of the day June 24th, 2022. If we do not receive learning resources back, the District may face challenges providing students and classrooms these critical resources in years to come.
Student Technology that is not returned by the due date will be disabled from use.
Why are we collecting technology?
The collection of technology at the end of this school year is vital because many devices have reached the end of their service life and/or have not had IT maintenance in up to 2 ½ years or more. IT services will take inventory of all devices, perform necessary updates to the technology, clean, repair and replace (as needed) all student technology over the summer. Getting all technology back is critical in order for the district to accurately plan and prepare for technology redistribution for next school-year.
What about summer school?
All MPS students, regardless of whether they are attending summer school or returning to MPS in the fall, MUST turn in all learning resources at the end of the school year. Students will be provided with the learning resources, including any necessary access to technology at their summer school sites.
What’s next? We will provide additional details at an upcoming portfolio meeting, including recommendations on how your site can prepare and communicate to students/families regarding collection.
Our goal is to limit the disruption to your normal end of year close-out, so schools will not be responsible for checking devices in, rather collecting them so that IT can prepare for redistribution for next fall.
